Pediatric Dental Care

According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists, pediatric dental care can begin as early as children’s first birthdays. Early dental care can ensure children receive quality oral health for a lifetime. Alternatively, parents can schedule their children’s first dental appointment within 6 months after the first tooth erupts.

At Mt. Angel Dental, we have a passion for working with kids and starting them off right to establish excellent oral health.

The Importance of Baby Teeth

Babies are born with all 20 primary teeth below the gum line. Teeth start to come through between 6 and 12 months, and by the age of 3, babies have a complete set of teeth.

Baby teeth are essential for overall health and well-being as they help children chew, speak, and smile. Baby teeth hold space in the jaws for permanent teeth growing under the gums. If babies have premature tooth loss, permanent teeth can drift into empty spaces and other permanent teeth don’t have space to come through, causing teeth to be crooked or crowded.

If parents are concerned about their children’s oral health, they should schedule an appointment as soon as possible with Dr. Weishoff.

How to Care for Your Children’s Teeth

Encouraging good oral hygiene habits from an early age begins by teaching your children how to care for their teeth. You can be sure that an early start will help instill a lifetime of healthy habits.

Ideally, children should brush their teeth for 2 minutes two times a day. Check out this video from Mouth Healthy brought to you by the ADA on “How to Teach Your Child to Brush His Teeth.”

At Mt. Angel Dental, we welcome children of all ages and look forward to guiding them on their journey to quality oral health for a lifetime!

Dental Cleanings & Regular Check-Ups for Children

Dental cleanings and regular check-ups for children are important for preventive health care. Having regular visits with the dentist helps establish good oral hygiene early and allows the dentist to detect any dental issues in children before they worsen.

Children should ideally have regular dental check-ups every 6 months so that any changes to their oral health can be identified and addressed early.
